Albany, NY -- Green Party of New York officers said Gov. Cuomo's State of the State preview was short on everything except Andrew Cuomo's positioning for the 2020 Presidential election. The party leadership said Cuomo's plans on climate change and health care will doom millions of New Yorkers who already suffer from the intensifying climate catastrophe, and from the ongoing health care emergency of nonexistent or expensive, poor insurance. They also stated that Cuomo's proposals for electoral reform needed to include RCV, proportional representation, and full public campaign financing.Read more
The Green Party of the United States is urging Congress and state legislatures to adopt a Green New Deal (GND) to respond to the climate emergency while committing to a full employment, sustainable economy.
Howie Hawkins' Green Party campaign for Governor in New York in 2010 was the first time a comprehensive Green New Deal agenda was promoted in the United States. It was based on a call for a Green New Deal in Europe developed a few years previously by the European Greens and others. The GND was a central focus of Jill Stein's two Green Party presidential campaigns in 2012 and 2016.Read more
The Chair of the Green Party of Pennsylvania (GPPA) expressed both disappointment and encouragement in response to the 2018 election. "I thought the election results were discouraging after all the work our many volunteers put into these campaigns," said Sheri Miller, Green Party Chair. "However, our Congressional and State Assembly candidates did well in races with only one opponent, leading me to believe that fear of the greater evil was the biggest factor in voters' minds."
"As in previous election cycles," continued Miller, "Green campaigns faced many obstacles. The mainstream press essentially ignored our campaigns; however we were surprisingly pleased by the excellent coverage by some more local press and alternative media outlets."
Great news! Today we ended our recount lawsuit in the state of Pennsylvania with a settlement guaranteeing that Pennsylvania will provide new voting systems using paper ballots by 2020, followed in 2022 by automatic audits after every election to confirm the accuracy of the vote before results are certified.
This is a critical victory for everyone concerned with the integrity of our elections, and we accomplished it together. Please help build the momentum for elections we can trust by sharing this great news on Facebook and Twitter!Read more
The Green Party of the United States expresses its outrage over the recent tear gas and rubber bullet attack on immigrants seeking legal asylum, as authorized by U.S. law, causing severe injury to asylees and creating mayhem in what should be an orderly process of intake and application.
Further, as a party of peace, we call for the immediate suspension of the tear gas attacks being launched over the border with Mexico, as this action constitutes unprovoked aggression against a sovereign nation and may be classified as an act of war.Read more
