November 12, 2016 – Despite being the least popular presidential candidate in recent history, Donald Trump has been elected president of the United States. Trump ran a campaign based on astounding levels of xenophobia and racism, calling for a ban on Muslims entering the country and a wall spanning the entire US-Mexico border. This campaign came under fire seemingly once a week with revelations of Trump’s lack of personal integrity and deep misogyny. After he openly boasted about sexually assaulting women, twelve women came forward with stories of being assaulted by Trump. On November 28, Trump will appear in court to face charges of fraud stemming from Trump University. In the face of all of these scandals, which would usually destroy a political career, Trump was able to soundly win the presidency.

I want to personally thank, and hug, each and every one of you for your courage, independence, and vision in supporting our campaign for a just, sustainable, prosperous society for all. I am deeply at peace and feel wonderful because I know we did our best for people and the planet, and we achieved dramatic progress in the public’s awareness and support. Together, we:

We are very pleased to announce that, for the first time in Missouri history, the Green Party appears set to be an established statewide political party in Missouri (pending official Secretary of State certification). There were two legal requirements for this goal: Gather 10,000 signatures of registered Missouri voters requesting to put the Party on the ballot statewide and one of our statewide candidates must get over 2% of the vote in last night's election. In August 2016, we met the first requirement with 25,000 signatures. On November 8, 2016, we met the second requirement as our candidate, Jennifer Leach for Lieutenant Governor, got over 2% of the vote–over 65,000 votes. Several of our other local candidates received vote percentages ranging from 18-24%. For the compressed period of time we had to campaign, this is a remarkable achievement.

The Green-Rainbow Party of Massachusetts is proud to have run 2 candidates for State Representative, in a year in which only 1/3 of all State Rep races were contested (MA is often abysmally low in numbers of contested offices):

Charlene DiCalogero, 12th Worcester:
1st time candidate, 19.7% of the vote in a small-town-rural mixed economic area, against a 22-year incumbent Democrat native to the area, with over $321,000 in his campaign fund at the start of the race and raised an additional $54K, while I raised circa $3,000.

Let me start off by saying thank you. Thank you to the candidates who stepped up and put their names on the ballot, to the volunteers and campaign staff that worked tirelessly to support those candidates, and to the voters who cast a ballot.

The past year has been an amazing experience, the Baltimore Green Party and the Maryland Green Party have grown in size, capacity, registration, recognition, and influence. Here in Baltimore we ran 2 city wide candidates and 5 city council seats. Throughout Maryland, 5 congressional races, a senate race, and presidential campaign.

What does it mean now that this election is over? No more political commercials? Don’t have to think about anything political until the next election?

Today we organize to fight and resist while we express solidarity with those communities who have been targeted by Trump during this election. All of the things we need--real living wage jobs-for-all through a Green New Deal, single-player universal health care, affordable housing, student debt relief and universal college education, a true end to police violence, termination of the war on drugs, dismantling the national surveillance state, ending US imperial foreign policy, and dealing with catastrophic climate change--require a radical, working class movement to win.

Last night the DC elites were sent a message of rejection.

Most people in the United States are struggling in an economy designed for the wealthy by the elites of both establishment parties.
